Domain
A domain is a name used on the Internet such as
"BabeeWorld.com". They are often called "URLs" for Universal
Resource Locator and is the way people locate your website. Domains
have different extensions called TLDs (Top Level Domains) such as
.com, .net, or .org as well as international and specialized TLDs.
You must purchase a domain from a "registrar" or an "authorized
agent" and once registered the domain is exclusively yours to use.
As the domain owner, you are responsible for paying annual
registration fees to keep the domain "current" and retain your
rights to the name. A Domain name by itself is not a website, but it
is the first step.
Web Space
A "website" is a collection of computer files that
you build using your computer. In order for people throughout the
world to view your website, those files must be copied or "uploaded"
onto a special computer that is connected to the Internet 24 hours a
day called a web server. Web servers are complex, powerful and
highly reliable computers that have special high speed connections
to the Internet to allow the transfer of files and e-mails along
with special firewall software to protect hackers from accessing
your files. When you buy a hosting package, you are renting webspace
on a server in order to avoid all of the expense and technical
aspects of doing it yourself.
Web Site
A website is your statement to the world. It can be
used for personal or business use, and has become a necessity in
today's modern world. A website is generally composed of pictures
and text and more sophisticated sites can incorporate animation
files and even special programs that run in the background. A
website also gives you a specific address to receive and manage your
e-mail. With your own website, you can create your own e-mail
addresses like anyname@yoursite.com.
No matter how basic, artistic or advanced, all
websites are made using a special code called html and these html
files, along with picture files and other program files, comprise
your website.
You can build your website in a number of ways or
hire a professional website designer to do it for you. There are
many website building tools and advice available for free on the
Internet and with some patience almost anyone can build a simple
website in a matter of hours.
E Mail
Electronic mail is how people contact you or your
business on the Internet. E-mail allows virtually instantaneous
communication and has become a very popular form of modern day
communication.
E-mail can be a simple note with just text, or use
special formatting to give it a more elegant appearance (rich text)
and can even contain links to other web pages. Another very common
use is to send pictures and small files between people or companies.
Having your own domain name and website allows you
to create unique and professional sounding e-mail address(s) (anyname@yourdomain.com)
regardless of which ISP you use. MediaTrendsX includes unlimited
e-mail address and unlimited e-mail address aliases.
Marketing
Once your website is up and running, depending upon
your content you may need to do a marketing campaign to let the
world know about your wonderful products or services.
Obviously if you are using a website only for
personal use like your family photos or hobbies, then marketing is
not important as you only give out your address to those you choose.
If you are using your website for commerce, then designing an
effective marketing campaign can make a huge difference to your
bottom line.
There are many ways to market your website, the most
common are: search engine submission, banner advertising, affiliate
programs, bulk e-mail campaigns, print & radio and leveraging your
existing infrastructure. All MediaTrendsX Network affiliates get
free search engine submission, free content and access to our
resources page with all sorts of marketing tips and links.
